Printing Geology

I’ve been scanning a bunch of monotype “rocks” in order to add them to the digital images as layers, and I discovered that the individual scans resembled archaeological (or geological) specimens. I also allowed my scanner to use its automatic “focus” feature, which enables the scanner to try focusing on information that seems scan-worthy or important.

The result was a variety of rock-like angles, specimen presentations and strange new terrain that developed via the scanner and my additional manipulation. Just thought I’d share some. Interesting moments, for sure.

These rocks will be popping up in the Cascade pieces before they get assembled into mixed media work of their own.
